Yellow Rice

Yellow Rice

This is the usual accompaniment with the South African Cape Malay dish of bobotie. If you find it too sweet with the raisins and sugar then just cook a normal rice without. There are other variations of this rice which have cardomoms in or peas or chilli, some people even mix butter with the rice but this is purely a matter of taste.

Serves 6

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of rice (I usually use Basmati rice)
  • 4 cups water
  • 3/4 cup raisins
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp tumeric
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp salt

Preparation method:

Place all the ingredients, including the raisins into a pot and add the 4 cups of water. Bring to the boil and then place a lid on the pot and simmer at the lowest heat for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Enjoy!
