Pico de Gallo
What we know as salsa actually means “sauce” in Spanish and there are many variations, salsa roja, salsa verde for example, but Pico de gallo, also referred to as salsa fresco, is a type of salsa. It’s a fresh salad of chopped tomatoes and red onions with coriander, fresh chilis mixed together with lime juice and salt. … While traditional salsa has a thinner consistency with more liquid, pico de gallo is more chunky with each chopped ingredient distinctly visible.
I love making Salsa in the summer when grilling and of course to accompany the guacamole and nachos!
Serves 6 – 8
Ingredients:
- 500g tomatoes, chopped
- 1 medium red onion, chopped finely
- 2 jalepeno chillies, chopped
- squeeze of lime juice
- A good handful of chopped fresh coriander
- Salt to taste
Preparation method
You get a pretty serving bowl and chuck all the ingredients in! It’s a bit like Arthur Mallards flower arranging!
Enjoy!
